Yesterday was just one of those days where I wrote just to say I showed up. I actually got up very early (2:30 am), and spent most of the morning marketing. I finally sat down to write and I got a call from the Post Office. I work part time for the postal service, which is basically every Saturday. Then other post offices around the valley call me if they are short. That’s what I did yesterday. It’s not a bad thing, but like I said, my valuable writing time went to marketing. And I’m writing this on a Saturday, so my goal is to find another half hour or so to write this afternoon, and then make up the word count starting on Sunday.

Last night my kids had a Halo party. When I came home, there were 16+ kids around 4 tv’s and xbox’s. It’s now 6:30 am, and there’s still a few kids. Therefore I didn’t get up early enough to do any writing, except to check in here with my numbers. 🙂

Week 3 Update

Week 3 of 2016 begins today and I’m somewhere near where I want to be with my writing. I’m at 79,000 words for January (and the year), averaging 3,700 words per day for the month, and am wrapping up quite a few projects I’ve been working on for a long time (a few for years). I will hit about 117,000 words for the month at my current pace.

With this being the last full week of the month, my goals are to finish Hungry Gods 3 (at least by the 31st), finish editing 2 books (one of which is Apocalypse Witch 3), and write 1 more short story. Then I can cross January off and start thinking about February.

I will try to release Apocalypse Witch 3 this week. 🙂

On a final note, with Spilling Blood ep. 11 released this week, I have begun writing Spilling Blood ep. 12.

Yesterday I worked on Hungry Gods 3, started my second short story for the month, finished the first draft of Apocalypse Witch 3, and did a little editing. I have now passed the 75k mark for the month. I’m now writing more than 25k a week. Last week I set a goal for myself to reach an average of writing 4k a day, and I’m not there yet, but I’m going to be pretty close by this weekend.

My computer didn’t crash yesterday, so I’m happy about that. Hopefully it’s got that out of its system. And I watched the first episode of Orphan Black Season 3. Oh, I drank loads of coffee. True story.

EDITING

So I see a big challenge arising because of my output. I need to make real time for editing. I don’t know how much time I realistically need to set aside for this task to get books released in a timely manner. In the past, the answer was give all the time, until the book was complete. That doesn’t work for me now.

So to start, I’m going to go at an hour at a time, and see how many words I get through. I’ll start a new spreadsheet to track this, and it’ll be more data for this page. This will give me an idea of how long it’s going to take before the book sees the light of day.

Note to self – this is something I should do with marketing too.

Yes! That’s a new title for Daily Word Count you see up there. Because, word count, right? But Writer’s Life… that sounds adventurous.

And it could be! Sometimes! Because, writers!

And yesterday was no exception. I had an antagonist enter the story of my life. I totally didn’t expect it. It was my computer. It froze up on me three times, and once I lost a few hundred words in Hungry Gods. Of course, I’m blaming the Windows update from Microsoft that happened the night before. Microsoft is the Big Bad of this story, and the PC like maybe a Level Boss, or even an anti-hero (since we’re usually friends – but that’s how it usually works with antagonists, the ones who love you the most are deal out the most hurt). There’s no resolution yet. It’s like an obscure indie film leaving the audience wondering if this glimpse into the protagonist’s life is just there to leave us wondering if it’s a profound statement about life and inevitability.

And while my PC sabotaged much of my productivity, I did manage to release Spilling Blood ep 11 (there will be an official announcement later), as well as plan for a Spilling Blood series sale starting in a couple days, PLUS! Word count.

So yesterday’s writing kept me completely in the world of Hungry Gods. It is ~69% complete. I fell beneath my minimum daily writing goal of 2,750 words, because… you know… PC issues.
