I’ve been quiet for about a month, but I’ve been busy. Here’s what’s going on.

Every spare moment of my writing time has gone to Apocalypse Witch for the last month, going through the entire series and making little improvements, and adding a touch of foreshadowing here and there. Books 1 and 2 will have an update this weekend (approximate, based on when I get the book back from my editing/proofreading team). Around the same time, Apocalypse Witch 3 will go live. The conclusion to the 3 book story arc will be complete!

First of all… here’s the cover of Apocalypse Witch Book 3!

On the same note, about a week after book 3 is released, I’ll release the Complete Trilogy in a bundle. I’m going to push to have the paperback out around the same time.

Spilling Blood 12 is also complete and will now be my focus. The editing won’t take too long on this one. I don’t know if I want to stagger my releases, or release Spilling Blood as early as next week also. I will be writing Spilling Blood 13 next week.

As for Hungry Gods? Yikes! This is a massive editing process and I’m not sure when I will focus on it, though I need to soon. I plan on revisiting the entire series again, making sure all three novels flow together. That’s about 160,000 words, so it isn’t a weekend project – more like a month. O.o

I wish I could say all of my time is going to writing, but a lot of the Post Offices have lost their subs around Southern Idaho, so I’ve been working everywhere, severely limiting my time. I’m just a substitute also, and actually have more free days than most postal workers, but I’ve been busier for the last three weeks or so than normal.

Tomorrow I will be at a library conference as a vendor, peddling my wares. 🙂

So anyway, that’s that. With Apocalypse Witch releasing soon, I’ll have more updates. Plus I need to look at the last three months and how it panned out.

I had a fantastic day at the Magic Valley High School, and they made me feel incredibly welcome. The students and faculty were wonderful to spend time with, and we had some great conversations about Broken Things and writing in general. It was a great honor to be selected for their One Book One School program.

With writing yesterday, I worked just a little on short stories, and did some editing on Apocalypse Witch. I’m seeing some covers that are getting close to completion, so I might have a cover reveal soon!

Had a fairly good writing weekend, all things considered. Well… I had a good Sunday. I didn’t update my blog in favor of getting writing in, on Saturday and Sunday. But since there’s things to update, here I am. The added words only reflect yesterday, by the way…. That word count was from 5 hours of writing. I would have liked to be over 10k with that time, but I’m currently writing a bitter slower.

Spilling Blood ep. 12 is written, and is entering the editing phase. Along with everything else. My awesome artist has the Apocalypse Witch covers nearly completed too. 🙂 Yesterday had my highest word count written for the year, passing the 8.5k mark.

Today I’ll get a little writing in, but I’ll be at the Magic Valley High School most of the day. 🙂

Thursday was a good writing day. Though the word count was just okay, I knocked out a short story, edited it, designed a cover, and sent it out into the world. Because I have three short stories with a similar theme, they were all packaged into a bundle, which I will release on a rainy day (like next week). FYI – those are under pen names.

Apocalypse Witch is moving forward. Aside from the writing, the editing is proceeding nicely. I kind of expected to have Spilling Blood 12’s 1st draft completed this week, but I don’t see that happening any sooner than Sunday. Maybe I’ll give it a full hour of writing, today.

That’s something of interest, which is also kind of sad. 🙂 I write for maybe two hours or so a day, and give around 4 projects my attention. That’s usually moving any given project forward by 800 to 1100 words every day. It’s great for the short stories. If I have two going at the same time, I can release a short story every two or three days, targeting, of course, 5000 words. The longer projects, even something as short as 15k, still stretches out. I don’t think the goal is to change the focus of what gets my writing time, instead, I’d rather get in more writing time than just two hours. Frankly, I spend a lot more time working on my books than just 2, but there’s other stuff, such as editing, marketing, and cover design. So yes, more writing time.

Writers Life and an Apocalypse Witch Update March 9, 16

Yesterday I did other things than doing much writing. I went to Storytime at the library with my youngest, I went to Twin Falls to get back my two repaired acoustic guitars, and I grilled for supper. I also had an article about me appear in the Buhl Herald, the local newspaper (see yesterday’s post). Writing-wise, I wrote a little on a short story, and I put together Apocalypse Witch into one single volume, and am going through all three books as though they are one.

If you are still waiting on Book 3 of Apocalypse Witch, it is on its way. However, since I’ve taken a large amount of time in getting it done, I’m going through all three books to make sure they are cohesive as a whole. It’l be better this way. I promise. 🙂 That also means the complete collection of all 3 books will be out sooner rather than later, and the paperback of the same will be right on its heels. I’ll probably do this with Hungry Gods too.

Got in an okay writing day yesterday. Apparently I’m really into writing short stories right now, I’ve got 5 and 6 going to be finished by the end of this week, unless I get distracted.

I managed to stay at the desk for 2 1/2 hours and move all of my projects forward a bit. After that I got the grill fired up for the first time this year. That was my excitement. 🙂

I think there’s supposed to be an article about me in the Buhl Herald today. I won’t know until I see a copy at the library this morning. I’ll try to get a photo with it. 🙂

Revisiting New Years Goals

Today I’m revisiting the goals I’ve made for the year, but looking at them as far as where I am for Quarter 1 (January through March), and a little at what I need to do for Quarter 2.

Goal 1: A blog post every day. Well I quit with that, only following up with an update on the days after I did writing. I’m not far off, but I’m not really writing much other than updates. Maybe I’ll revisit trying to do more in April.

Goal 2: 52 books in a year. This is the tenth week of the year. One of my goals is to have 52 stories for the year (roughly one a week). I’m at 6 completed out of the 10, but only one of them is under the GS Wright name. 😛 Once Hungry Gods 3 and Apocalypse Witch 3 are done, I’m only 2 behind (7 behind with the GS Wright name). 🙂

Goal 3: One Million Words for the year. I’m fairly confident I’m going to succeed at this. Granted, I wasted February. Right now (thank you February) my average daily word count is 2,029. That won’t get me there (that’s only 742,600 words for the year), but I write way more than 2k a day on average when I do write, and if I get back on schedule, that average will be back up. For example, I’m averaging 3k right now just for March. I’ll revisit this at the start of April and see how close I get back on track. Part two of this goal, 2 million, I’m not confident about at all. On that I’m already 230,000+ words behind. O.o

Goal 4: Read a book a month. Meh. I’ve got this one. According to Goodreads, I’ve finished exactly two books so far. 🙂 Just need to add one for March.

So anyway, on to other stuff.

Yesterday I finished another short story, and my word count actually includes about 1k from Sunday on the project mentioned yesterday. I’m not adding it to the list of books I’m working on, because at this point, it’s low on my priority chart. My goal for March is to put some of my projects to rest, primarily Apocalypse Witch and Hungry Gods. I’m going to be at a library event in April, and it would be nice to have those books available in print. Following the completion of those two books, I’d also like to finish Spilling Blood Season 3, but I don’t see there being enough time to get get the last three parts done this month too, though I’m going to try.

Yesterday also marked the end of week 1 of March, with a word count of exactly 21,000 for the week.

Today I need to make a cover and publish a short story, then on to writing for a bit, and finally editing.

Squeezed in about an hour and a half of writing yesterday, mainly focusing on short stories, though I did some writing on a new idea. I might keep going, I dunno. I need something to work on when away from the house on my tablet when there’s no wi-fi. Maybe that’ll be my new idea. :/ I’m having trouble transferring it to my mac through Onedrive as an rtf file, so I’ll wait until I get my Office 365 codes today and update the word count tomorrow. 🙂 So writing below only reflects what I did yesterday on the mac.

I didn’t push to complete anything yesterday, I had a little time to write and I went after it. Yesterday my oldest son turned 19 (!!!), so there were other things going on after he got off of work. Looking at my word counts, I think I might make Spilling Blood a priority in the upcoming week (aside from Apocalypse Witch, which I want to see released… she keeps getting bumped).

Writer’s Life March 3, 16

Yesterday I completed another short story (plus edited and published, all under a pen  name though), finished Hungry Gods 3 (which moves on to the editing stage now), and began another 20k novella (also under a pen name). Although Hungry Gods is written, Apocalypse Witch 3 goes through editing first.

Just to point out how pathetic I was in February, after only 3 days in March I’ve already written more than I did last month. AND! I took one day off so far. Today’s goal is to work on Spilling Blood 12, edit on Apocalypse Witch 3, and put a little bit of time into my pen name writing.

Btw… I’m working on a Mac now. I haven’t made the transition fully, I still need Photoshop and MS Office before I’ve fully moved. So I’m still a PC AND Man guy, for the time being. Thank God for OneDrive and Google Drive. It makes it super easy to work between different machines. I also have a Windows PC/tablet for writing on the road, and being able to have files shared among all of the machines (without carrying out jump drives, SD cards, etc) is a blessing.
