The Return of the G.S. Wright Elusive Monday Update

Back to Writing

Yes, it’s been awhile since my last Monday update, mainly because life. It’s difficult to do an update when I feel I am not moving forward fast enough.

For the most part, my word count for the year is only 128k, and here we are in July. Most of my time has gone to other things, and working elsewhere. As far as accomplishments? I published all of Spilling Blood Season 3. All 4 episodes are up on Amazon, of course, 14 books in total for the entire series.

With that, this week’s goal is to get Season 3 in a single volume, for those of you who prefer to read it as a novel and not as a serial. So that’s coming soon.

As far as other writing goes, my next book is a zombie romance. More coming on that later. It’s in the revision phase, and with a little luck, I’ll make a lot of progress this week.

So, not much of an update, except I’ve got some projects coming along.

Goals

I’m not going to look back at this year’s goals, except to get as many words as I can out before the end of the year. At this point, I’ll be happy if I hit 200k. If I get a good week of writing in, maybe I’ll rethink everything, see where I’m going.

Blogging

And I’m going to try and blog again. Like, here we are, right? Yesterday I did a writing prompt based on ideas I generate fairly frequently. Basically, I’ve got more story ideas than I’m ever going to use, so I thought I’d share some with you for awhile. Watch for another batch next Sunday.

Last Week’s Adventures

I spent quite a bit of time this week with friends visiting from California, though they’re not going to be Californians any longer. They’re moving to Washington. My friend Denny is an amazing guitarist, so I’ve had the opportunity to hear some incredible playing. Incidentally, his wife Jennifer happens to be my amazing cover artist for the plethora of my books.

I got dread locks on Thursday.

I and the fam spent yesterday in Gooding, Idaho at a Basque Festival. I’m not Basque, but it’s still a good time.

Sounds like I’m heavy into cultural appropriation, doesn’t it?

Spilling More Blood

When I started the Spilling Blood serial, I wanted to create a vampire series reminiscent of vampires in the 80’s. Vampires of this era were killers, still looking for a good time, but leaving no doubt that they are still monsters. Spilling Blood takes its influence from the likes of Anne Rice, the Vampire: the Masquerade RPG, and horror movies such as Lost Boys and Near Dark. I hope you’ll find the books stayed true to their influences.

It’s been a fun run, over the course of, geez, about 5 years. Now, the vampire serial, Spilling Blood, is nearing its end. This week brings the release of Spilling Blood episode 13. You can grab it now for $0.99. The price will go up in a few days.

If you are new to the Spilling Blood series, you can now try episode 1 for $0.99 (as well as episodes 2, 3, and 4 at the same price, if you like to read in a serial format).

If you like it? Great! The price for the complete 1st season has also been dropped to $2.99. That’s the bundle, and you can read Season 1 like a novel.

On that note, we’re a week or two from the last book’s release. Episode 14 is coming soon, wrapping up Season 3.

2017 Week 1 Accountability

The first week of 2017 is over, and time for Week 1 Accountability.

Writing

The Goal: Write Every Day. Hit 2 million words for the year. Write a book a week.

Actual: I wrote 6 out of 7 days. Week Total: 16,664. Daily Average: 2,381. Words per Hour: 2,641. Books Written: 2. Two rough drafts completed.

So this word count won’t get me to a million words, and not even close to 2 million. I have to really pick up the pace. I had two free days to write, where I wrote over 11k combined. Then our snowstorm hit, and I’ve been called in every day to help with the Post Office. I tried to make myself write for 30 minutes every day, even when exhausted (we got *a lot* of snow). By Friday, my willpower was shot, and Saturday, I no longer had a plan (two first drafts completed, so either needed to edit or start something new).

The books completed were Spilling Blood episode 13 and a pen name novel.

And distractions besides the Post Office? I was offered a position in a Top 10 Rock Band 4 Rivals Crew. How could I say no? 😀 And then Netflix – they have all of Season 10 of Hell on Wheels. *Sigh*

Other: I did not take the move into poetry. I may start this goal later, but it’s going to take a back seat to my prose.

Music

I put off starting this goal due to time constraints. it is a secondary goal to writing.

Other

I didn’t even bother with these goals, as I was barely participating in goal #1.

The weather doesn’t look to be letting up much this week, so I don’t know what’s going to happen. My focus this week will be to write Spilling Blood 14 and get my previous two projects edited. That might be a full week, depending on the weather.

Indie Author Day at the Buhl Public Library

Quick Summary: I am participating in Indie Author Day on October 8th, ’16, along with a lot of other Idaho writers/authors. Follow me (and the event) on various social media. 🙂

indiebanner

This Saturday, I, along with around 15 other authors (or more!), will be at the Buhl Public Libray for Indie Author Day. While most of the day is centered around workshops for indie authors, I will be signing books afterward, starting at 3:30 pm to 5 pm. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet many other indie authors.

I will have my newest novels there, including Apocalypse Witch and Soul Sister.

I am also going to attempt to keep up a steady stream of Snapchat and Instagram Stories throughout the event. Twitter and Facebook too. It might be too much Social Media. Just. Maybe. We’ll see.

On Instagram, add me as gswrite.

Am I back?!

Am I back?! I dunno. I’ve actually got time to work on my books, and first up is Spilling Blood episode 12. I had a fantastic start to this year, and then it came to an abrupt end when I started working pretty much six days a week for the Postal Service – and I’ve found it very difficult to find time for writing. My writing goals are shot, and while the year’s not a waste, it’s not the year I had in mind. In the past, it’s taken a complete one full day off to get my mind back into writing, and, well, here I am writing a quick blog post about it. 🙂

Regardless, today, hours (!!!) will be devoted toward getting Spilling Blood episode 12 finished and off to my proofreaders.

For my Spilling Blood fans, the wait will have been worth it. This episode is going to be about twice as long as any episodes from Seasons 1 and 2, and lots of vampire and werewolf action/horror. You’ll hear more about it as it gets closer to launch, but I’m going to set a goal of having this Season (and series?) wrapped up before Halloween ’16.

Writing Update

I’ve been quiet for about a month, but I’ve been busy. Here’s what’s going on.

Every spare moment of my writing time has gone to Apocalypse Witch for the last month, going through the entire series and making little improvements, and adding a touch of foreshadowing here and there. Books 1 and 2 will have an update this weekend (approximate, based on when I get the book back from my editing/proofreading team). Around the same time, Apocalypse Witch 3 will go live. The conclusion to the 3 book story arc will be complete!

First of all… here’s the cover of Apocalypse Witch Book 3!

AW3 shadowfalls

(I also have the cover for the bundle, but I’m saving it until closer to release)

On the same note, about a week after book 3 is released, I’ll release the Complete Trilogy in a bundle. I’m going to push to have the paperback out around the same time.

Spilling Blood 12 is also complete and will now be my focus. The editing won’t take too long on this one. I don’t know if I want to stagger my releases, or release Spilling Blood as early as next week also. I will be writing Spilling Blood 13 next week.

As for Hungry Gods? Yikes! This is a massive editing process and I’m not sure when I will focus on it, though I need to soon. I plan on revisiting the entire series again, making sure all three novels flow together. That’s about 160,000 words, so it isn’t a weekend project – more like a month. O.o

I wish I could say all of my time is going to writing, but a lot of the Post Offices have lost their subs around Southern Idaho, so I’ve been working everywhere, severely limiting my time. I’m just a substitute also, and actually have more free days than most postal workers, but I’ve been busier for the last three weeks or so than normal.

Tomorrow I will be at a library conference as a vendor, peddling my wares. 🙂

So anyway, that’s that. With Apocalypse Witch releasing soon, I’ll have more updates. Plus I need to look at the last three months and how it panned out.

Month 1 Update

Sign up here to get an email when my next book is released: http://eepurl.com/bmlfdD

January’s over. It’s time to modify my goals and see where I want to go based on what I accomplished.

First off – What January Was –

In January, I completed 2 short stories, Spilling Blood ep. 11, Apocalypse Witch book 3, a and 20k novella under a pen name. I hit the word count target for Hungry Gods book 3, though the rough draft won’t be finished for a few more days (it’s going to come close to 60k). Editing is taking a while, I have 3 books in the editing stage. It is what it is.

I wrote 103,398 words in January. I averaged 3,335 words a day. That’s better than the 2,750 word low target (which is enough for 1 mil words for the year). I averaged 1,746 words per hour.

My most popular book with sales for January was Spilling Blood Season II. My most popular book in Kindle Unlimited was Soul Sister.

My Quote of the Day and Daily Writing Prompt Posts are going away. I will keep them on Twitter only. The posts aren’t popular, so I’m not going to keep them alive any longer.

ON TO FEBRUARY!!!

February is set up to be a home run. I have three books about ready to publish. I’ll be editing Hungry Gods 3 for most of the month (after it’s completed this week). I will also start writing a new novel today.

I want to put January’s Word Count to shame, so I’m going to shoot for 4k-5.5k. I want to keep taking it up each month.

What else for February – Spilling Blood ep. 12, and a few pen name projects. I’ve got the word count room for more stories, but I haven’t decided what, exactly. It won’t be starting anything else until SB12 is done, anyway.

(Last day to get Spilling Blood ep. 1 for Free).
