Indie Author Day at the Buhl Public Library

Quick Summary: I am participating in Indie Author Day on October 8th, ’16, along with a lot of other Idaho writers/authors. Follow me (and the event) on various social media. 🙂

indiebanner

This Saturday, I, along with around 15 other authors (or more!), will be at the Buhl Public Libray for Indie Author Day. While most of the day is centered around workshops for indie authors, I will be signing books afterward, starting at 3:30 pm to 5 pm. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet many other indie authors.

I will have my newest novels there, including Apocalypse Witch and Soul Sister.

I am also going to attempt to keep up a steady stream of Snapchat and Instagram Stories throughout the event. Twitter and Facebook too. It might be too much Social Media. Just. Maybe. We’ll see.

On Instagram, add me as gswrite.

Writer’s Life Update April 22, 16

AW3 shadowfallsOkay, so I’m working on a change to these Writer’s Life updates, and this is not it. However, it’s getting me back into the habit of getting these posts daily again. But then, I also slept until after 8 am today, when I typically get up at 5 or so, so that’s not exactly a great start either. When it changes, you’ll know it. It’ll hopefully be a big deal to this site. 😀

ANYWAY! I’m patiently waiting for Apocalypse Witch 3 to come back one last time with approval, and then I should have it released this weekend. After that? I plan on teasing the 3 book set of Apocalypse Witch (the cover is amazing, if I do say so myself), and then Spilling Blood 12. That’s all happening in the next three weeks (a book a week, finally!) Also, I have a pen name novella in the editing process I intend to release this week too. So despite sharing my time elsewhere (I’m looking at you, Post Office 😉 ) I’ve got projects finally reaching completion. I haven’t touched any new short stories in a month, and probably won’t until May.

And also for today? I’ll be enjoying lunch with the winners of the Broken Things presentation and essay contest from the Magic Valley High School for their One Book One School program! If you haven’t read Broken Things, I personally think you should, becauseI wrote it and kind of like it a lot. Click on the cover to go to Amazon.

I’m Featured in Today’s Buhl Herald

This is, as far as I know, the first article about me and my writing to appear in a newspaper. 🙂

Broken Things in One Book One School

Yesterday the Magic Valley High School in Twin Falls kicked off their One Book One School program. This is a program where both staff and students read the same book, 30 minutes a day, for several weeks. They are then holding two contests: an essay and a presentation.

What is particularly exciting (for me) is that they’ve chosen my novel Broken Things for the program. I delivered 200 signed copies to the school last Thursday, and I will also participate in a meet and greet later this month with all of the students.

I released Broken Things in 2013, and this is quite an honor to be chosen (they could have chosen from any of the classics or more widely known authors). A heartfelt special thanks to Ms. Miller for getting the book attention, the rest of the faculty for their support, and to the school and students. You all are awesome. 🙂

52 Books in 52 Weeks

As a recap, last week committed to the goal of writing 52 books in 52 weeks. Week one is over, and I am ahead of schedule!

Week 1: 2 books. Ahead of schedule. Books Released: Spilling Blood Episode 10; Spilling Blood Season II. (click on the covers or on the text to be teleported to Amazon)

spillingbloodcover2-ep10  spillingbloodcover2

Words written last week: 8,938. Averaged 1,788 words a day (across 5 days, I rarely write on the weekends). Most of my time was spent editing and revising Spilling Blood 10, and the Season II collection.

This Week’s Projects

All attention is going to finishing Soul Sister. As it currently stands I am at 34,531 of 50,000 words. The final word count is not fixed, and may well go over.

If I get a chance to work on a second project, I’ll move on to the third book of the Apocalypse Witch series.

Also, I still have a long way to go to finish the paperback of Spilling Blood Season II, which I’d like to finish this week and get submitted to Createspace.

BONUS!

Guess what? Broken Things is on sale this week! Grab it for $0.99 on Amazon for your kindle reader. You’re welcome.

The Return of the Elusive Monday Update

It’s been a very long time since I’ve done a Monday update. At one time I intended to post my weekly word count on my works in process, along with how many words I’d written for the year.

I failed…

To be honest, I have been distracted for the last few months by other projects. I think it’s time to return to my books.

WIP’s

Currently I am working on my three series and one stand-alone novel.

 HUNGRY GODS BOOK 3

Out of my three series, this one is the most complicated. If you read Death Storm & the sequel, Death’s Reach, there are many, many story-lines that must be brought to the conclusion. I had originally hoped to get it done by the end of this summer, but I have constantly let myself get distracted with other projects. My current goal for this book is by the end of the year. I am setting the goal of a 50,000 word book, though I expect it to surpass that length.

Hungry Gods III Word Count: 1,335/50,000

 SPILLING BLOOD SEASON II

Last year around October I released Spilling Blood, Season I. I put out one episode a week for four weeks, releasing the collection around Halloween. This year, I’m going to release the new episodes as I can. I’m not going to keep to a weekly schedule as life’s schedule is interfering. However, it will be longer, with two additional episodes. Season II will encompass episodes 5 through 10, with each episode of the serial around 10,000 words.

Here’s a teaser of the cover:

Spilling Blood Season II, episode 5 Word Count: 1,665/10,ooo

 APOCALYPSE WITCH BOOK 3

I started this series a few months ago, with the idea of writing them quickly. That didn’t happen. Book 3 has not gotten the attention it needs. Each book of the Apocalypse Witch serial will continue around 20,000 words.

Apocalypse Witch Book 3 Word Count: 486/20,000

 SOUL SISTER

This is a stand-alone novel and is nearing completion. If you liked Broken Things and haven’t really gotten into my genre writing, you’ll probably like SOUL SISTER. You’ll be hearing more about this book in the very near future.

Check out the cover:

Soul Sister word Count: 29,915/50,000

 ONE MILLION WORDS IN 2014

Argh. What can I say? I am nowhere near meeting this writing goal. If you recall, my purpose was to write 1 million words over the course of this year. I am currently at 201,669 words, only about 20% of the way there and with just over four months to make up the difference. I might redo this goal for 2015, but I’m not giving up on it until midnight nears on December 31st.

1 Million Words Goal: 201,669/1,000,000

With a little luck and motivation, I’ll have a new Monday update next week, with impressive word counts.

Monday Update Part 5

One year ago from yesterday, I released my first book, Broken Things. Since then, I’ve published two others, with my fourth book coming out within a few days.

Broken Things was the novel I wanted to write, a story that I felt was inspired. It is the novel I wanted to launch my career with. I’m still proud of it, even though my writing has continued to grow since then. It’s still my favorite of all my stories. It’s taken me across Southern Idaho to book signings in a variety of venues from an aquarium and to coffee bars and bookstores. It also continues to sell the best of my three titles, so far.
Broken ThingsEven though I am frequently asked if this book will ever have a sequel, I really don’t want to lessen the book by giving it a series. There’s some books (and movies) that lose everything they stand for because of further development, and this I will always believe is one of them. It has reached rank #1,138 in paid bestsellers on Amazon, and broken into the top #100 from a promo free run.

In this second year, I have another sci-fi novel coming out, probably a month or two away. It will be for those of you who enjoyed my first Sci-fi, with a story-line that will hopefully make you think and feel. More on that at a later date.

I will also be writing my other two genre fiction series, being Hungry Gods and Spilling Blood. I’ve promised my wife her advanced copy of Death’s Reach will be in her hands over the next couple of days, which means that you will be able to read it within a week.

In Death’s Reach, the zombie apocalypse takes a number of horrifying new turns as zombie gods begin to extend their influence over the world. There are few sanctuaries left, and the survivors from book 1 find their resolve tested as the world descends into chaos.

If you liked Death Storm, you’ll love Death’s Reach.
