Soul Sister Audiobook Release: A New Way to Experience the Journey

My novel, “Soul Sister”, is now taking on audiobook on Audible!

This novel is not just a tale; it’s an exploration of deep themes – love and hate, life and death, angels and demons, hope and despair. It’s about facing one’s demons, both literal and metaphorical, and the power of resilience.

For those who have read the book, this is an opportunity to revisit the story and experience it anew. For newcomers, prepare to embark on a journey that’s both haunting and beautiful, filled with moments that will stay with you long after you’ve finished listening.

The audiobook is perfect for those long commutes, quiet evenings, or whenever you wish to lose yourself in a different world. Grab your headphones, settle in, and let “Soul Sister” transport you to a place where the shadows hold secrets, and the fight for one’s soul is the greatest battle of all.

Happy listening!

Blackout Poetry from Soul Sister

Occasionally, I’m going to share projects that I’ve been given by students who’ve studied my books. I’m going to leave the poet anonymous as this was schoolwork. 🙂

Blackout poetry is a creative literary form where writers take an existing text and selectively redact words, bringing forth poignant new poems from the underlying work. This artform has become popular in classrooms as a way for students to engage with literature in an imaginative, hands-on manner.

Earlier this year, a student at Wakapa Academy here in Buhl crafted a blackout poem by reinterpreting passages from my novel, Soul Sister.

As an author, I’m always humbled to see my writing used as raw material for another’s artistic expression. The student’s blackout poem is a reminder that storytelling is collaborative. While I put my vision down on paper, readers complete a book by bringing their perspectives and finding personal meaning. This interplay further validates writing as a powerful tool for human connection.

I hope their example will inspire other young readers to experiment with blackout poetry using my writing or any fiction they deeply enjoy.

Pulp Speed Day 3

Day 3’s actual new word count was a pittance at 621 words. I did, however, make it through 3,264 words, which is alright. I’m through 17,369 words in the WIP.

Word 365 also did some freaky stuff when I was about done for the day. Suddenly, I couldn’t save anything, and the program kept saying there was some type of certificate error, or it had expired or something. I dunno. Anyway, I managed to save it to the desktop before Word crashed. Excel was having similar issues.

Day 4 looks promising. I’m going to try and get through 7k words or more.

I also need to take time to further the Spilling Blood Season 3 paperback. Indie Author Day is coming up next month, and it would be nice to have a couple of new paperbacks to sell at the event.

I also received a nice review for Soul Sister. You should read the review. You should definitely read the book.

Excerpt:

Garth Wright has written a very well crafted story in his novel Soul Sister. It’s uncommon to read a horror/ supernatural story and discover a depth of emotional intensity like the reader will encounter in this tale. The author writes the troubled emotional life of his lead character, Mia, with the confidence of someone who knows what depression does to the lives of its victims. Wright also helps his readers to understand that Mia is not the only person victimized by her depression, but that everyone in her life is touched by the lurking shadows, including her father, who passed his shadows to his daughter.

Indie Author Day at the Buhl Public Library

Quick Summary: I am participating in Indie Author Day on October 8th, ’16, along with a lot of other Idaho writers/authors. Follow me (and the event) on various social media. 🙂

This Saturday, I, along with around 15 other authors (or more!), will be at the Buhl Public Libray for Indie Author Day. While most of the day is centered around workshops for indie authors, I will be signing books afterward, starting at 3:30 pm to 5 pm. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet many other indie authors.

I will have my newest novels there, including Apocalypse Witch and Soul Sister.

I am also going to attempt to keep up a steady stream of Snapchat and Instagram Stories throughout the event. Twitter and Facebook too. It might be too much Social Media. Just. Maybe. We’ll see.

On Instagram, add me as gswrite.

Month 1 Update

January’s over. It’s time to modify my goals and see where I want to go based on what I accomplished.

First off – What January Was –

In January, I completed 2 short stories, Spilling Blood ep. 11, Apocalypse Witch book 3, a and 20k novella under a pen name. I hit the word count target for Hungry Gods book 3, though the rough draft won’t be finished for a few more days (it’s going to come close to 60k). Editing is taking a while, I have 3 books in the editing stage. It is what it is.

I wrote 103,398 words in January. I averaged 3,335 words a day. That’s better than the 2,750 word low target (which is enough for 1 mil words for the year). I averaged 1,746 words per hour.

My most popular book with sales for January was Spilling Blood Season II. My most popular book in Kindle Unlimited was Soul Sister.

My Quote of the Day and Daily Writing Prompt Posts are going away. I will keep them on Twitter only. The posts aren’t popular, so I’m not going to keep them alive any longer.

ON TO FEBRUARY!!!

February is set up to be a home run. I have three books about ready to publish. I’ll be editing Hungry Gods 3 for most of the month (after it’s completed this week). I will also start writing a new novel today.

I want to put January’s Word Count to shame, so I’m going to shoot for 4k-5.5k. I want to keep taking it up each month.

What else for February – Spilling Blood ep. 12, and a few pen name projects. I’ve got the word count room for more stories, but I haven’t decided what, exactly. It won’t be starting anything else until SB12 is done, anyway.

(Last day to get Spilling Blood ep. 1 for Free).

Monday Update #4

Avenger Dogs
Went and saw the new Avengers movie this weekend. That has nothing to do with this post. Carry on.

A few weeks ago I decided I’m going to write/publish a book a week for 52 weeks. I can cheat (because I made my own rules) and count bundles toward my publishing total. You know the game, now for the damage:

Week 3: No new books completed. I published Soul Sister. Because most of the writing went to editing SOUL SISTER and getting SPILLING BLOOD SEASON II ready for print, I only wrote 1,732 words last week. For all of April I wrote 34,785 words. I actually released a total of 4 books in April, too. Only three of them count toward the goal, though. 🙂 WEEK 3 of 52: 3 Written/3 Published.

This Week’s Goals:

  1. Finish Apocalypse Witch 3
  2. Get Soul Sister ready for a print edition
  3. Write something else

Monday Update #3

52 Books in 52 Weeks – Week 3

tumblr_mpa1vstnbl1rb324eo1_500I am writing/releasing 52 books in 52 weeks. Week two is over. Week 2: 1 book written. I finished Soul Sister on Friday. I’m making a few changes for the second draft. It will go through my proofreaders one more time (hopefully) and it’ll be released (again, hopefully) this week. I’m very excited to share it with you. It’s my favorite story from my muse so far. Words Written Last Week: 11,882. Average: 2,376 a day across 5 days. All of my time went to finishing Soul Sister. Week 2 of 52: 3 written, 2 published.

This Week’s Projects

  1. Get Soul Sister polished and beautiful and released.
  2. Finish Apocalypse Witch Book 3.
  3. Spilling Blood Season 2 needs a paperback edition… STILL!!!

BONUS!

This isn’t really a bonus, but a reminder. Did you know you can still read Death Storm (Hungry Gods Book 1) for FREE? I’m just throwing that out there because you’ll be seeing Book 3 in about two months and that will give you time to read the first two books with very little wait for the conclusion. You can find Death Storm at any of your favorite ebook distributors. It’s everywhere, seriously. cover-teaser

Words written last week: 8,938. Averaged 1,788 words a day (across 5 days, I rarely write on the weekends). Most of my time was spent editing and revising Spilling Blood 10, and the Season II collection.

This Week’s Projects

All attention is going to finishing Soul Sister. As it currently stands I am at 34,531 of 50,000 words. The final word count is not fixed, and may well go over.

If I get a chance to work on a second project, I’ll move on to the third book of the Apocalypse Witch series.

Also, I still have a long way to go to finish the paperback of Spilling Blood Season II, which I’d like to finish this week and get submitted to Createspace.

BONUS!

Guess what? Broken Things is on sale this week! Grab it for $0.99 on Amazon for your kindle reader. You’re welcome.
